More on cardinal numbers...


   Above twenty...

Look at the pattern again.
  • In Tagalog column, "dalawampu't isa" is the condensed form of "dalawampu at isa".  The word "at" in the middle is a conjunction word which means "and" in English, so "dalawampu at isa" literally means "twenty and one", which is equivalent  to "twenty one".  Got the pattern? 
  •  In Ilocano column, the word "ket" is just added in the middle of the "duapulo" (twenty) and "maysa" (one).  It is the Ilocano term of the English conjunction word "and" and "at" in Tagalog.  Look at the table below and you'll see how easy to form the Ilocano words of the numbers.
